The violet plant (Viola papilionacea) is a small, sweet-smelling plant belonging to the Violaceae family. The flowers' grassy, floral fragrance makes them a popular ingredient in perfumery, while their antiseptic qualities make them an excellent addition to skincare products. Violets often grow in moist, slightly shaded areas, and the plant absolute is now produced primarily in Egypt where it has been in production since the early 20th century. Violets are planted alongside corn to be shaded from the strong Egyptian sunlight, and harvesting begins in May, recurring every 70 days through the summer and autumn, before finally ceasing in December. The harvester's networks bring the leafy material to the factories where the rich, green absolute is obtained by solvent extraction. It is thick and dark with a strong, leafy and floral aroma, which adds a fresh, green note to fragrances. This absolute is also said to be antibacterial and antiseptic, making it an excellent ingredient to improve the condition of the skin.
