frequently asked questions

Essential oils are the highly concentrated version of the natural oils in plants. Getting essential oils from plants is done with a process called distillation, most commonly distillation by steam or water, where many parts of the plants are being used, including the plant roots, leaves, stems, flowers, or bark.
After distillation, the outcome is a highly concentrated portion of essential oil, which will have the characteristic fragrance and properties of the plant from which it was extracted, and contain the true essence of the plant it came from. This includes the smell, but also the plant's healing properties and other plant characteristics.

Essential oils have been used throughout history in many cultures for their medicinal and therapeutic benefits. While the oils are still in the plant, they provide the plants with protection against predators and disease, and also play a role in plant pollination. As these properties carry forward into the essential oils, folk medicine since ancient times has made use of essential oils in medicinal practices.
This knowledge is also still widely used today. Modern scientific studies and trends lean again towards more holistic approaches to wellness and a revival of essential oils for physical and psychological health and well-being applications.
The most common therapeutic application of essential oils is that of aromatherapy, where healing effects are achieved through the aromas of the essential oils. Many essential oils are believed to have an uplifting effect on the human's mind; and many essential oils also have antiseptic properties, which means they reduce the possibility of infection when applied to the human skin.

A 100% pure essential oil means that you're purchasing just that oil (which is completely free from Phthalate , Petroleum Chemicals and Allergen Free) , and not an essential oil blend or a bottle that has oil blended together with carrier oils or other additives.

There are many different ways to use essential oils. They can be diffused for aromatherapy, blended into creams and lotions, diluted with carrier oils for topical applications, used to make soaps and perfumes, cleaning, and much more.

Yes, essential oils have many different uses and this can be used like any oil. For any topical applications, we want to ensure the oil is properly diluted, as essential oils are highly concentrated. We recommend testing the oil on a small area of the skin first before using for whole body treatments.

A carrier oil is an oil that is used as a base to dilute essential oils before they are applied to the skin. Diluting essential oils is ideal when they're being used on children, pregnant women or with particularly strong oils like oregano. (Find high quality great carrier oils here.)

Though essential oils are a natural remedy, they are very potent.

  • Use precaution:
    • Do a skin test before using essential oils topically.
    • In case of skin irritation, stop using the oil. If you're using it neat, try diluting it before using it again.
    • Keep them out of your eyes. Ouch
    • Use only high quality oils that you know are pure.
    • If in doubt, dilute.
    • Listen to your body. If you don't feel right after using an essential oil, stop using it, or if you feel like you need to use a certain one, try it. Your body is a great guide.
